Amanda Walker
My addiction to CrossFit began about 12 weeks after having my son in January of 2012. My husband had been trying to get me to buy into this “constantly varied, short intensity” workout thing in between having my kids; but I was not interested, never feeling like it was “enough.” After 2 kids, I was finally ready for something new, something that would hold my “workout ADD” as I call it. I gave in and gave it a go, trying to learn as much as I could by watching endless hours of videos and learning from him. I was determined to get the first pull up of my life at age 30 …only to be a series of CrossFit firsts from there. Since then, I have never looked back!
Like many CrossFitters I have been an athlete my entire life playing basketball, volleyball and track. As an adult, I continued to play in recreational leagues and became a group fitness instructor, teaching spinning and total body conditioning classes. I even raced in a few half marathons, a full marathon and a handful of sprint triathlons . None of those things gave me that competitive feeling, mentally or physically, like CrossFit does.
After being a high school biology and anatomy teacher and coach for 10 years, I am excited to leave the classroom setting and enter a new forum for teaching. I am excited to share my love for Crossfit with young people and ignite their drive to be more functional and powerful in their athletic settings. I can’t even imagine what life would have been like in high school if I had the opportunity to CrossFit!
I feel privileged to have been invited to be a part of Incendia, both as coach and as athlete to continue to feed my addiction!
