PALEO CHOCOLATE BANANA SHAKE
By Lisa
Sometimes you just need a chocolate milkshake. Right? I haven’t been feeling well for the last couple of weeks and I’ve been looking for a little pick-me-up. I have Celiac disease and I’m severely allergic to dairy so it’s hard to go completely off the rails. I always try to Paleo-fy treats to look for a less unhealthy version of some of my favorite foods. As always, I started with a recipe that I found online and I played around with it a couple different ways. I originally made it with unsweetened almond milk and put a little coconut cream in the mixture to fatten it up and it was good; however, I’m allergic to almonds and it made my throat itch. You might like this recipe a little better with the almond milk because it isn’t quite as rich, but the coconut milk version is quite yummy as well. If you do protein supplements, this would be a perfect way to disguise it. (Oh, coconut cream is the hard part of the coconut milk that collects at the top of the can. Just put a couple teaspoons into the almond milk version.)
Ingredients
- 8 ounces unsweetened canned coconut milk
- 1 1/2 cup crushed ice
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons almond butter
- 1 teaspoon chia or flax seeds
Directions for 2 Servings
- Place all ingredients into your blender and blend. (I just got a new Ninja and it is totally amazeballs!)
